On the first day of the Butik Mardin Midyat Tour with Malitur, after our morning flight, we meet our guide at Mardin Aziz Sancar Airport and proceed to our bus. We start the day with breakfast in Mardin. We begin our walk through the historic streets of Old Mardin, where we will experience different eras of history at every step. Our amazing tour begins at the crown gate of the last Artuqid work in Mardin, the impressive Latifiye Mosque. We then take a photo break at Republic Square. As we pass through the small tunnels (Abbara) connecting cultural streets and narrow passages, we will transition into different time periods. We will walk through narrow streets and visit Zinciriye Medrese (Sultan Isa Medrese), one of the best places to enjoy the Mardin and Mesopotamia view.
Walking among various structures that blend different faiths with street walls, doors, and doorframe ornaments, we arrive at the Mardin Grand Mosque, an Artuqid period masterpiece. We will explore the Grand Mosque, known for its layered dome and particularly striking minaret, with our guide, and see the coppersmiths' bazaar. Next, we will see the Old PTT Building, known as Şahtana Mansion, built by the Şahtana Family in 1890 by Armenian architect Lole. We take a coffee break with an incredible view and architectural structure at the magnificent Şehidiye Mosque, built in the 13th century. After resting with the Mesopotamian view, we will have our lunch. Next, we will visit the Mardin Living Museum, where the artistic heritage of Mardin is kept alive, showcasing arts like lead pouring, telkari, copper processing, and traditional Reyhani dance.
We will visit the Sakıp Sabancı City Museum, which brings to life the city’s history and identity formed by its religious and cultural differences with presentations supported by photographs. Our visit to the museum, which has an impressive collection of tombstones from different faiths, fabrics, soapmaking, stone carving, goldsmithing, handicrafts, and items used in villages, will leave no questions about Mardin’s richness. We will conclude the visit and meet our transport for the last sightseeing stop, Kasımiye Medrese, reflecting the Artuqid and Akkoyunlu periods. After receiving information about the medrese, we will meet on our vehicle and head to our hotel for rest.

Day
Dara Ancient City – Nusaybin – Mor Yakup Church – Zeynel Abidin Tomb – Beyazsu - Kafro Village - Mor Gabriel Monastery - Mağaraköy – İdil - Haberli Village – Midyat
On the second day of the Butik Mardin Midyat Tour with Malitur, after having breakfast at the hotel, we leave our hotel and head to the Dara Ancient City, known as the Efes of Mesopotamia. Located in Oğuz Village, 30 km southeast of Mardin, Dara Ancient City is one of the most significant settlements in Upper Mesopotamia. We will explore Dara Ancient City, composed of rock-carved structures over a wide area, with our guide. After exploring Dara Ancient City, we will proceed to Nusaybin, the zero point of the border.
Nusaybin, an important city in Mesopotamia with a history of approximately 7000 years and a 4000-year-old name, has part of its continuous settlement area in Syria and a significant portion in Turkish territory. We will visit the Mor Yakup Church, the largest school in Mesopotamia. After receiving information about Mor Evgin and Mir Osman, we will visit the Zeynel Abidin Complex, which contains the tombs of Zeynel Abidin and his sister Sitti Zeynep. After getting information about the Complex from our guide, we will get on our vehicle to step into a different geography. We will arrive at Beyazsu, which originates from the base of the plateau and foothills south of Midyat. We will take a tea and coffee break at Beyazsu, which features cool and crystal-clear water, trees, and greenery in Mardin’s dry and treeless geography before heading to Kafro (pizza) Village, a different settlement area in Southeast. After lunch, we will continue our tour.
We will head to Mor Gabriel Monastery, located within the borders of Midyat. (It will be visited if conditions allow sufficient time.) The monastery is one of the famous and large structures of the Syriac Ancient Community, situated on a high hill covered with oak trees. Founded by Mor Shmuel and Mor Shemun in 397, the monastery is known as "Rahiplerin Meskeni" and derived from the Syriac "Deyrulumur." We will visit the monastery with our guide. After visiting the monastery, we will move to Mağaraköy (Kiwex), which belongs to İdil and is located within the borders of Şırnak. Mağaraköy, where the Yazidis lived according to their beliefs and traditions for centuries, is entirely abandoned. It gets its name from the caves carved and used under the houses. Our guide will provide information about Yazidi culture, and you will be transported back in time with the atmosphere, scent, graveyard sites, and structure of the houses. After the free time, we will move to the Süryani village of Haberli (Basibirin). The 23 churches in the village will give you an insight into the vitality and density of the village in ancient times. We will explore Mor Eşayho Church from the open churches and after learning about this Süryani village, we will enjoy tea at the village café and have a chat with the locals before saying goodbye.
